Discovering the Power of Asanas

“सर्वे भवन्तु सुखिनः। सर्वे सन्तु निरामयाः।

सर्वे भद्राणि पश्यन्तु। मा कश्चिद्दुःखभाग्भवेत्॥”

— May everyone be happy, healthy, and safe—and may no one suffer.  Ananda Marga, founded by Shrii Shrii Anandamurti, is more than just a spiritual path—it’s a way of life. It blends yoga, meditation, and selfless service to help people grow physically, mentally, and spiritually. One important part of this system is practicing asanas, or yoga postures, which aren’t just for fitness—they’re tools for a balanced and meaningful life.

In Ananda Marga, asanas are chosen carefully for their benefits. They help keep your body healthy, your mind clear, and your emotions steady. There are 42 specific poses recommended, and each one is linked to your internal systems like glands and nerves. What’s unique here is that you follow a routine based on your age, gender, and health—and the asanas are done before meditation to help you go deeper within. It’s not just about stretching; it’s about preparing yourself for spiritual growth.

A few well-known poses in the system include Padahastasana (good for digestion), Bhujangasana (boosts spine and adrenal health), and Sarvangasana (great for your thyroid). You’re meant to do these in a clean space, on an empty stomach, and always end with Shavasana to relax. If you're not feeling well or are on your period, it's best to skip them. And ideally, you should learn from a trained teacher. In the end, these postures help you feel better, live better, and connect more deeply with yourself.
